Formatta Filler Support Now Included in JAWS Screen Reader Software

Herndon, VA – In an effort to streamline the process of filling out e-forms for the visually impaired, Freedom Scientific now has built-in support for Formatta Filler 6.0 in the latest version of JAWS screen reader software.

JAWS 6.0 uses assistive speech technology along with Filler commands to vocalize text for any given field on Formatta’s Section 508-compliant e-forms. When the user tabs to a field on a Formatta form, the JAWS screen reader immediately transmits the text aloud.

The built-in support for Filler 6.0 makes using Formatta forms with JAWS simple. Upon installation of JAWS 6.0, the scripts also install automatically, providing commands, keyboard shortcuts, key combinations and help content on using Filler.

Formatta’s tab ordering eliminates the confusion the screen reader encounters when presented with two columns of text, allowing JAWS to read the form in logical progression. “You can control how you navigate through the fields on the page,” said Joe Goyette, Vice President of Research and Development at Formatta Corporation.

Maneuvering around complex forms with JAWS and understanding their flow is clarified with Filler’s Bubble-Tips feature. Formatta’s Bubble-Tips technology creates graphic pop-up balloons that provide a narrative description for the automated screen reader to enunciate. Filler also supports screen magnification, as well as keyboard controls and Braille devices.

In order to achieve full Section 508 compliance, Formatta has worked with several important federal agencies as well as their sight-impaired employees to develop and test their e-form technology, such as the United States Department of Education, the Internal Revenue Service and the General Services Administration.
